Privacy Policy — MediJapan

Last updated: July 23, 2026. This app is provided by Bipan Gurung ("we", "us"). Contact: medijapanapp@gmail.com.

MediJapan helps foreigners in Japan understand over-the-counter (OTC) medicines. It provides information only — it does not diagnose, treat, or prescribe. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.

1. Information we collect

We do not ask for or intentionally collect your name, precise address, government IDs, or payment card numbers (purchases are handled by Apple/Google).

2. How your health data is treated

Your health profile, symptom messages, and scans can reveal information about your health, which is sensitive under Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI) and similar laws. We collect it only with your action of entering or scanning it, use it only to provide the app's features, and never sell it.

3. AI processing

To answer symptom questions and interpret scans, the relevant text and images are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic, the Claude API) for processing and returned to you. This processing is necessary to provide the feature you requested.

4. Service providers we use

These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms. We do not sell your personal data or share it for advertising.

5. How long we keep it & your controls

We keep your data while your account is active. You can:

6. Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with access controls that restrict each user's data to that user. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

7. Children

MediJapan is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. The medicine information is general OTC guidance for adults; always follow package labels and consult a pharmacist for children.

8. International transfers

Our providers may process data on servers outside your country (for example, in the United States). By using the app you understand your data may be processed in those locations.

9. Not medical advice

MediJapan provides information to help you choose OTC products and communicate with a pharmacist. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. In an emergency, call 119 in Japan.

10. Changes

We may update this policy; we will post the new version here and update the date above.
